Reproductive years of any woman range on the average from 12 to 52 years of age. During these years a woman is able to conceive thanks to a periodic monthly process occurring the ovaries called ovulation. During ovulation, a maturing egg is coming out of the ovary and becomes potentially inseminable by a sperm while moving from the surface of the ovary ,through the peritoneal cavity, then into and down the Fallopian (uterine) tube, and into the cavity of the uterus. Ovulation occurs under the influence of 2 pituitary hormones, the follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and the luteinizing hormone (LH). These hormones in turn stimulate cells that surroung the maturing egg in the ovary as well as the cells that remain at the site of previously positioned egg cell after it leaves the ovary (the so-called corpus luteum, or "yellow body"). These ovarian cells produce respectively estrogens (while the egg is still in the ovary) and progesterone (after the egg cell leaves the ovary). Estrogens, in the first part of the menstrual period, stimulate endometrial lining to grow, while progesterone, in the second part of the menstrual cycle, after an ovulation has already occurred, stimulate the endometrial cells that line up the inside of the uterus to produce glycogen to become a "fruitful" soil for a probable implantation of fertilized egg. After a few days (about 10 for 28-day cycle) progesterone stops being produced by the corpus luteum, and the "ripe" but "barren", because of lack of an implanted fertilized egg, lining of the uterus starts shedding off. This process is accompanied by insignificant bleeeding commonly referred to as menses, or periods.
By about age 52 the number of egg cells in ovaries becomes depleted and the pituitary hormones, FSH and LH, even though still trying to knock on the door of the ovary, do not get any "response" - no one is at home there anymore. The pituitary gland starts making even more of these hormones, but to no avail - the train is gone. There is nothing in the ovary left to be stimulated and to produce estrogens and progesterone. In the last reproductive year, there may still be a few occasional ovulations that are not regular now. On the whole, the body has now to adapt to the new rules of the game - higher FSH and LH, but not that much of estrogens or progesterone. Exactly during this time of hormonal change and instability, termed perimenopause, which means the time around menopause, women may experience fluctuations in their mood, such as irritability, nervousness, insomnia, depression and their body, such as hot flashes. Hot flashes are thought to be one of the most uncomfortable symptoms when woman may feel extreme hot especially in their face and neck, accompanied by sweating, palpitations, and redness of the skin.
What conventional medicine has to offer to treat these uncomfortable perimenopausal symptoms is the so-called estrogen-replacement therapy (ERT). Moreover, perimenopausal symptoms are now probably the only indication for administration of estrogens (ERT) and only for a short time, like 2 or 3 weeks, because of recent studies linking their longer usage to increased risk of breast and uterine cancers.
It has been noticed by people throughout the world over ages that using certain plants helps decrease or eliminate symptoms related to perimenopause (otherwise called climax, or climacteric period). e-Naturopathic has something to offer in this respect: a naturopathic prescription 103017R based on a commonly encountered but uncommonly used plant species which is efficacious and safe. This is not black cohosh that may be commonly found in stores and which many woman report to be useless.
Another interesting hot flash relief presented by our friends at is based on a unique Australian plant, the preparation of which has been additionally supplemented with Auyrvedic-based energies.

We would like to return to the issue of dysbiosis (intestinal dysbacteriosis) once again in this entry. It is now very well recognized by the scientific community that having the right normal microflora in one's gut is absolutely essential not only to the health of the gastro-intestinal system, but also to the overall health. In particular, this phenomenon is explained by the influence that normal microbial flora exerts on many parameters of the immune system, electrolyte homeostasis (the constancy of our salt composition in the internal medium of our body), and hence the feeling of well being and good mental health. The benefits of probiotics (the live cultures of "good" bacteria that can be consumed by mouth and then inhabit the gut in largerer quantities), prebiotics (the substances that the useful bacteria can feed on and thus thrive) and synbiotics (foods that have both probiotics and synbiotics, such as sauerkraut) have been shown for conditions ranging from irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, to various autoimmune conditions, for example, proriasis and very many others. The natural power of probiotics is used in many of the naturopathic prescriptions of natural home, herbal and alternative remedies presented at, such as the prescription for nail fungus (onychomycosis)(119014R) or to counteract intestinal dysbiosis using a plant that suppresses "bad" gut flora and promotes growth of healthy microbes (157039R).
Along with that, regular use of probiotics on a daily basis can help not only increase the numbers of healthy flora in the gastro-intestinal tract, but also provide your body with very useful digestive enzymes that your body will be thankful to you for.

In this article you will find some good advice that elderly and senior people have used for cleansing and rejuvenating their body in old age.
- In the spring time, it is useful to drink fresh white birch tree (Betula alba) juice, as well as tea brewed with young birch tree leaves. This helps in the cleansing of the body.
- Over the course of 10 days refrain from any food but whole grain cereal cooked (millet, rye, oats, barley, or buckwheat) in boiled water. Chew on each portion no less than 25 times. Try to drink as little as possible, and when you do drink, drink only water. This diet is recommended by Tibetan medicine for the cleansing and rejuvenating of the body.
- Regular consumption of pine tree nuts increases the body's defense against a large number of diseases and increases longevity. Russian academician P.S. Palas noted back in the 18th century that pine tree nuts restore a man's force and bring back youth to the man. (Be careful, though, to puchase good quality pine nuts that would not cause the bitter mouth syndrome. Check it out before you buy.)
- To rejuvenate the body, prepare a mixture of juice squeezed from 4 lemons and 400 grams (about 1 pint) of grated garlic. Add 1 teaspoon of the mixture to 1 cup of water and drink 30 minutes before meals.
- Each morning before you eat or drink, take the following mixture; 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of warm natural bee honey (can be warmed in a microwave or on the stove) and 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
- Once a week take a cup of milk (or water) and boil; while it is boiling, add 2 crushed cloves of garlic. Remove from stove before it starts boiling again and steep for 10 minutes. Then drink the infusion. This is one of the methods used in old times for cleansing of the body.
- During the course of 1 month (better in springtime), take 1 pint of cow's milk serum per day and abstain from consuming any fats, alcohol, coffee, or sugar. This is a very good method to remove harmful substances from the body and to rejuvenate it.
- The great Persian scientist of the past Avicenna believed honey was a great remedy for many ailments that one should eat honey on a regular basis. Honey possesses rejuvenating properties due to the presence of flower pollen, which renders its positive effects on the body.
- If you take flower pollen dry, follow it with water. It is best to take it on empty stomach or before meals. The dosage should be about 20 grams per day and the course should last 1 month. Repeat the course at the beginning of each season.

Mix together 1 cup of freshly squeezed juice of fresh onions (only NOT blue or purple or red one) and a cup of honey. Keep the mixture at room temperature for 3 days, then place the mixture in the refrigerator for 10 more days. Take 1 tablespoon, 3 times a day, 30 minutes before meals and be healthy.
Onions are commonly available to everyone. Oftentimes we just pass by it, unaware of its wonderful healing properties! Perhaps, the reason for this is a lack of information and experience, as well as prejudices. The main values of onions are that they work well to combat atherosclerosis, to reduce blood sugar (elevated blood glucose), to increase the release of bile from congested bile tract in the liver, and to stimulate the motor and secretory functions of the stomach. It also increases libido and sperm formation in men. That is why it is a very good remedy for impotence and male infertility. Onions are effective for constipation, colitis, and intestinal worms (helminthosis).
The bulbs of this plant are rich in vitamin C, vitamins of the B group, natural sugars, and microelements. These essentials are why onions are good for atherosclerosis, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, congestion in the bile system of the liver and gallbladder, colitis, diarrhea caused by intestinal dysbacteriosis (dysbiosis), impotence, benign prostatic hyperplasia, etc.
Onion juice mixed with honey (1:1) is very good for a dry cough, common colds, and pertussis (whooping cough) when taken at the dosage of 1 tablespoon 3 to 5 times a day by mouth. For children, the tablespoon should become a teaspoon of measure.
Onion tincture based on vodka (1:5) can be used both externally and internally for better hair growth.
Inhalations of the vapors from freshly cut onions are useful for bronchitis, lung abscess, and influenza.
Baked onions can be applied to a furuncle (boil) to speed up its development and allow it to rupture through the skin's surface (as opposed to spreading inside the body).

I frequently use chamomile (Matricaria officinalis) and believe it to be a superb external antiseptic remedy. I usually brew 1 teaspoon in a glass of boiling water, steep it for 30 minutes, and use it when my children have conjunctivitis in their eyes (pink eye) or I use it to clean small skin injuries or scratches they get while playing. Such an infusion would usually cleanse and remove inflammation. Also I used this infusion to wash my hair. The hair becomes full of body, starts glistening and acquires a much healthier look.
I once had a bout of gastritis. I immediately thought why not use the chamomile infusion to treat my stomach? I started drinking tea brewed with 1 teaspoon of dried chamomile. I felt substantially better after just a few hours. And then, a catastrophe occurred; my menses began soon after the day I started drinking the infusion, and they were more abundant than usual. On the third day of my menses, I awoke and felt as though I was literally floating in blood in my bed. I called an ambulance and was taken to the gynecology department. Literally after 2 days the bleeding stopped as abruptly and unexpectedly as it had started. I consulted with an herbalist who told me that experienced phytotherapists have known this fact for ages; chamomile should not be used internally by women of reproductive age during their periods. I tried to recall whether I had ever encountered such a warning on packaging or elsewhere, I could not think of any warnings. She also said something I have never forgotten: "Herbs are not candies". So, I always read serious, scientific literature first, consult with knowledgeable people, and once I have educated myself, only then do I use naturopathic prescriptions.

This story taught me to quickly stop LEG CRAMPS...
One evening I had a severe bout of cramps in my legs. At the time, my wife was trying a beauty secret and was constantly dipping her fingers into a glass of salt water so she could tap her face and neck with her salt-water-moistened fingers. By mistake, I grabbed my wife's salty water glass and took a huge gulp. I was unaware that the water in the glass was not only very salty, but also hot. I was about to scream with indignation until I realized the cramp had been dissolved from my leg.

They say if you know too much, you get old sooner. I know a lot, because I am 80 and to most people that is old. I know a few things and have much advice to give. I would be very pleased if any of these recommendations help even one person, although I would hope to help many. The diseases are the same, but people and their bodies are different, which means all remedies may not work the same for all people.

You should touch your forehead up against a window. The glass will take away the static electricity - this helps reduce elevated intracranial pressure.

Take a trip to your local hardware store and buy an electric wire with a copper core; depending on your store you may be able to purchase just the copper wire alone. If you purchase the electrical wire, once you arrive home, take off the outer insulation material and remove the core copper wire. Clean it with sand paper and then wash it with soap and water. Make a ring by wrapping it around your waist so that it sits comfortably without falling down. On one end make a small ring (or hoop), and on the other end make a small hook, to grasp the ring/hoop (like a bracelet). Wear it on your bare body (underneath your clothing) around the waist. Take it off only when you take a shower.
