Diarrhea is either loose stool or increased number of bowel movements that is beyond normal (2 times a day). Diarrhea may be watery or bloody, may have changed color and smell or contain ingredients that are not normally seen in stool like undigested particles or food ingredients (fat), mucus or even parasites. Diarrhea may be caused by intestinal infection with bacteria, virus, protozoa, fungus or parasites or may be a part of inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, or any of the malabsorption syndromes, as well as a part of the picture in many diseases of the gastrointestinal tract as well of the whole body. Diarrhea may also be caused by things that we consume by mouth. It is not always easy to determine the cause of diarrhea the task of which should rather be referred to a qualified specialist such as GI doctor, or gastroenterologist. Oftentimes natural remedies may become a real rescue for people suffering from diarrhea. It is always better though to know exactly what you are dealing with by consulting with your GI specialist first.

My son had a case of diarrhea which was very bloody. Apparently, he was suffering from a GI infection. To remedy his problem I took a spade and walked towards a forest, along its border with a meadow. I dug out a plant that was about 1 foot tall and had a blooming pink ear and a thick brown rhizome which resembled a craw fish tail. I took the plant back to my home and prepared a decoction. I gave it to my son in the amount of 1/2 cups every 4 hours. The next day there were no signs of his illness remaining. I heard of a case of an infant with a GI infection who recovered after being cared for with this home remedy prescription. He was so weak that he quit breastfeeding. This naturopathic prescription for GI infections accompanied by bloody diarrhea, for instance, dysentery, is based on 1 herbal species.
